In #Istanbul many restaurants served these burning clay pots filled with meat and vegetables. At #TheHanRestaurant in the #Sultanahmet are of the city, Turkish traditions are their specialty. . . . We sat on pillow cushions with low tables and feasted like kings and queens. From fresh salads, flatbreads and these delicious stews I can’t imagine a trip to the city without a stop at this restaurant. . . . Eating healthy while travelling has been a real challenge. In #Turkey it was far easier with great stir-fry dishes, grilled proteins and lots of middle eastern salad dishes.

I have been working on more photos as I begin writing some more articles from my #dream trip to Istanbul with @turkishairlines. . . . Their layover program includes city tours to pass the time and we were treated to a walk through the Balat neighbourhood and a glass workshop with the team @1200derece. . . . . It was the perfect way to warm up on a cold rainy day in #Istanbul. A memory I will cherish for a long time and bringing home glass beads I made myself the best souvenir ever. Today I got to see a #MardiGras parade from a new perspective... on the float itself. . . Seeing all those happy people smiling up at me when they caught the beads I threw was something I will never forget. It’s not just about collecting as many beads as possible, it’s about the connection between the communities we drove through and each person I made eye contact with before throwing those beads into their hands. . Thank you #Lafayette for being such happy hosts this experience will live with me for a long time.

Today is #LundiGras In #Lafayette and we kicked off the day at a traditional #Boucherie and finished up with the #queenevangeline parade. The rain did stop in time for the fun and we had a great night dancing and being showered with beads. #feedyoursoul . . The theme tonight was royalty and this was the first float of the night. Tomorrow we have another full day of #mardigras events planned!

My first #MardiGras parade was an experience I will never forget. The anticipation as we waited for it to start and watching people guard their spots was fascinating. When it all started I could not believe the energy of pure joy. The joy from the crowd and the joy from those on the magnificent floats throwing beads. Can I just say I had no idea how excited I would get trying to catch beads but also that fear as the beads, toys and other souvenirs were thrown out above me. Mardi Gras is a serious activity here and the festival is just starting. I’m so grateful to be here in #lafayette and meet and celebrate with this incredible community. My first night in #lafayette was epic. I got my first listen to #zydeco music @feednseedbar and have not stopped tapping my toes since. . . Imagine the old barn from footloose with lights strung up in the rafters mixed with #mardis gras decorations and a crowd of couples dancing the night away on the wood floors. . . The band was frisky and fun as you can see from this photo.
